Benriach

The BenRiach distillery was founded in 1898 in the Speyside region of Scotland.  Benriach stands on the site of the old Riach farm, drawing water from a mineral-rich aquifer, deep below the distillery.

Laying claim to some of the most experimental casks in Speyside, Benriach produces three styles of whisky: classic, peated and triple distilled. Best described as rich, multi-layered and full of character, the distillery character of Benriach is most commonly fruity, floral with honey notes.

An insight of the sometimes eclectic palate of Benriach can be surmised with a recent interview with head distiller Rachel Barrie.  When asked to describe 10 Year Old she was gently nosing from the glass in her hand, Barrie asserted “You’re going to start getting the fruit and the spice, and then in time you get more malt.”  Bringing the glass to her nose a second time she continued “…so on the nose, the pear is beautiful, there’s apple, there’s poached peach, there’s bananas, it’s like a big fruit bowl, but it’s smothered in cream, it’s drizzled with honey”.
