this Overeem Bourbon cask single malt Australian whisky is matured in a 100 litre, American oak ex-bourbon cask., This expression offers a deeper layer of complexity than previous Overeem bourbon cask matured releases due to the heavy toast and char cask treatment throughout the coopering process. Think light summer fruits, summer barbeques with charred meats and toasty campfires.
Overeem whisky is exclusively released as single cask. Every bottle is individually numbered to identify ‘Cask’ and ‘Bottle Number’, making every release unique.
In Overeem's relatively short history it has seen an interesting list of owners, and has recently come full circle back to the founding family.
Established in 2007 by Casey Overeem together with his daughter Jane Sawford, they set out to produce an Australian single malt whisky that would 'proudly stand alongside the best whiskies in the world'. In 2014 the brand was sold to Lark distillery which was then aquired by Australian Whisky Holdings in 2018.
In June 2020 the Overeem trademark finds its way back to Jane who adds "We never really let it go. It’s still our favourite whisky.
We are proud to now include Overeem single malt whisky in our growing line up of Australian whiskies.
Aroma: Bright, fresh and vibrant with coconut, bananas and molasses, with hints of vanilla, caramel and a nutty edge.
Taste: Coconut and pineapple upfront, with burnt vanilla and citrus, caramelised banana, marshmallows, charred meats and toasted oak.
Finish: Toffee apple, charred oak and mouth watering, light spice and coconut, medium length.
